When adding decimals, it's important to line up the numbers correctly. First, write the numbers underneath each other so that the decimal points are aligned. This helps us keep track of the ones, tenths, hundredths, and so on.

Let's say we want to add 3.45 and 2.7. We write 3.45 on top and 2.70 underneath, like this:

Remember to fill in zeros if a digit is missing, to make the addition easier.

Now we can start adding the numbers from right to left, just like with whole numbers. If the sum of a column is 10 or more, don't forget to carry over to the next column. Finally, place the decimal point directly below the other decimal points in your answer.
